Reference Number: PR201929, Press Release Issue Date: Oct 08, 2020

Permezz ta’ kollaborazzjoni bejn Malta Enterprise u l-Aġenzja għall-Enerġija u l-Ilma, tħabbar li se tkun qed tingħata għajnuna lil dawk l-intrapriżi u negozji li jimplimentaw proġetti li jużaw l-enerġija b’mod effiċjenti.

Il-Ministru għall-Ekonomija, Investiment u Negozji Żgħar Silvio Schembri qal li għal din l-iskema se jkunu allokati €15-il miljun b’baġit annwali ta’ €5 miljun, u li din l-iskema ser tgħin lin-negozji u l-intrapriżi biex itejbu l-apparat tagħhom għall-bżonnijiet tal-lum u biex titnaqqas il-ħela fil-konsum tal-enerġija.

“L-għan tagħna huwa li nħeġġu negozji jibdew jimplimentaw proġetti li jgħinuhom ikunu iktar effiċjenti fl-użu tal-enerġija, proġetti li jħarsu fit-tul billi jimplimentaw soluzzjonijiet u investimenti għall-benefiċċju tagħhom u tagħna bħala pajjiż. Fi żmien dawn l-aktar xhur ta’ sfida minħabba l-COVID, bħala ministru bqajt niltaqa’, nisma u nżur lin-negozji u l-iktar ħaġa li laqtitni kienet l-enerġija tagħhom biex mhux naqbżu dan il-mument ta’ sfida, imma li jħarsu iktar ‘il quddiem. Laqtuni l-pjanijiet ta’ wħud minnhom biex per eżempju jibdew imexxu ‘l quddiem proġetti li jinvestu fl-użu aktar effiċjenti tal-enerġija”, qal il-Ministru Schembri.

Il-Ministru għall-Enerġja u l-Immaniġġjar tal-Ilma Michael Farrugia qal l-enerġija u l-ilma huma s-saħħa u sostenn biex l-intrapriżi fis-setturi tal-manifattura u s-servizzi jkunu jistgħu jikbru u jkabbru l-potenzjal ta’ pajjiżna.

Dawn is-setturi jikkunsmaw mat-30% ta’ enerġija li tiġi kkunsmata fil-pajjiż, u mas-66% tal-konsum tal-elettriku. Il-ministru qal li dawn l-intrapriżi jkunu dejjem minn ta’ quddiem biex jagħmlu l-investiment neċessarju li jtejjeb il-prestazzjoni tagħhom. Għalhekk, l-Aġenzija għall-Enerġija u l-Ilma fi ħdan il-Ministeru għall-Enerġija u l-Immaniġġjar tal-Ilma, taħdem ma’ partijiet interessati biex it-tnaqqis fil-konsum tal-enerġija u l-effiċjenza fl-enerġija jkunu dejjem fuq l-aġenda.

“Din l-iskema mħabbra llum għaldaqstant se tkun qed isservi biex tissapportja lill-intrapriżi biex ikunu ppreparati meta fix-xhur li ġejjin, il-ħajja ekonomika tal-pajjiż terġa’ ssib ir-ritmu”, qal Michael Farrugia. Huwa temm jgħid li l-Pjan Nazzjonali għall-Enerġija u l-Klima jagħti importanza lil dawn is-setturi u kien għalhekk li l-gvern wasal għall-pass tal-lum, biex jiżgura li l-intrapriżi jgawdu minn għajnuna.

Proġetti eleġibbli għal din l-iskema jridu jkunu mmirati li jtejbu l-effiċjenza fl-enerġija u jistgħu jinkludu investiment li jaġġorna tagħmir u installazzjonijiet biex inaqqsu l-konsum tal-enerġija, li jista’ wkoll ikun rinovament jew aġġornament ta’ tagħmir ta’ installazzjoni għat-tisħin (jew sistemi ta’ tkessiħ) eżistenti, kif ukoll it-titjib tal-effiċjenza enerġetika ta’ sistemi ta’ illuminazzjoni eżistenti.

Kumpaniji żgħar jistgħu jibbenefikaw minn sa 50% tal-valur eliġibbli, kumpaniji medji jistgħu jibbenefikaw minn 40%, filwaqt li kumpaniji kbar jistgħu jibbenefikaw minn sa 30% tal-valur eliġibbli.

Through a collaboration between Malta Enterprise and the Energy and Water Agency, assistance is to be provided to those enterprises and businesses which implement energy efficient projects in their operations.

Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Businesses Silvio Schembri said that €15 million will be allocated to the Energy Efficiency Scheme, with an annual budget of €5 million which will help our businesses and enterprises upgrade their equipment to cater for today’s necessities and reduce wastage of energy consumption.

“Our goal is for this scheme to encourage businesses to start implementing projects that will help them be more energy efficient. Projects which cater for the long-term, by implementing solutions and investments which will benefit both the businesses in question, as well as the country as a whole. During these more challenging months due to COVID, as a minister I continued to visit, meet and listen to businesspeople, and what impressed me most was their clear goal to not only get past this challenging moment, but to continue looking ahead. I was intrigued by some of their plans, for example, to promote projects that invest in the more efficient use of energy”, said Minister Schembri.

Minister for Energy and Water Management Michael Farrugia said energy and water are the strength and sustainment for enterprises in the manufacturing and services sectors, enabling their growth while enhancing our country’s potential. These sectors consume 30% of the total energy consumed in the country and 66% of total electricity consumption. Minister Farrugia said that these enterprises are consistently at the forefront, making the necessary investment to improve their performance.

The Energy and Water Agency within the Ministry for Energy and Water Management works with stakeholders to ensure that the reduction in energy consumption and energy efficiency remain continually on the agenda.

“The scheme announced today will therefore serve to support enterprises in preparation for the coming months, when the country’s economy regains its rhythm”, said Minister Farrugia. He concluded by saying that the National Energy and Climate Plan attaches importance to these sectors and for this reason government has launched this scheme to ensure that enterprises benefit from such aid.

Eligible projects must be aimed at improving energy efficiency and may include investment in upgrading equipment and installations to reduce energy consumption, which could be renovation or upgrading of equipment of existing heating installations or cooling systems, as well as improving the energy efficiency of existing lighting systems.

Small companies can benefit from up to 50% of the eligible value, medium companies can benefit from 40%, while large companies can benefit from up to 30%.
